How I made a mediocre (vegetarian) chili

This is/was a a modified recipe I got off the internet somewhere. Unfortunately I can't find the source anymore, but that's not important.

What is important, is what I've learned:

I forgot to take pics of quite a few things. All in all, there was not much Love going on while cooking - it took too long, the result was a bit meh, and there were too many ingredients that didn't make a big enough impression on me.

(Mistakes/pitfalls are clearly indicated in bold. Amount of ingredients follow from size of container - this is mainly a mental note to myself, anyway. (But that doesn't mean you shouldn't try it!) This is enough for 3 or 4 servings/bowls.


I used 2, the recipe said 1. Different is not always better - use ONE (depending on strenght).

1 tablespoon of chili powder:

1 tablespoon of ground cumin:

1 tablespoon of oregano:

1 tablespoon of paprika powder:

2 onions:

1 red and 1 yellow bell pepper.

Why not 2 red ones? Red is a nice colour, and tastes better/stronger. Use 2 red ones.

rice (if you desire - I like to eat rice with chili).


Yes, this looks like a couple of yak hearts been left to decompose for a week or so in a damp cellar. Use tomato paste instead - added advantage may be the added salt, because resulting chili tastes somewhat bland, yet sharp.


Start cooking the rice - if you want rice to begin with - 15 minutes in this particular microwave:

Then, toss the oregano, paprika powder, cumin, chili powder, onions and peppers into a liberal amount of olive oil. Original recipe said to fry for about 10 minutes - I think that's a bit extreme; a few minutes would probably suffice:

Toss in the mushrooms, bell pepper and corn, and stir-fry/-cook for about 10 minutes until the vegetables become a bit soft:

Finally, toss in the beans and yak-hearts / tomatoes, and cook for about 30 (!) minutes on low heat, while stirring every now and then:

Finally, take a bowl, fill, eat, and let's move on to easier food next time:

Still, enjoy the meal! (May need salt.)
